"Most of us won't step out [into the water] of our own choosing, but are most often knocked into the water by some failure, loss or tragedy; where grief is the only passageway. After the initial thrashing and panicking we may be surprised by the experience of letting go, of releasing our contraction of fear and discovering to our delight that we can be OK in the water."

Sermon by the Rev. Jon Dephouse at All Saints Church, Pasadena, on Sunday, August 10, 2014. Readings:  1 Kings 19:9-12 and Matthew 14:22-33. Watch this sermon on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbqwZRqp9zk&feature=youtu.be.
